Outlaw and Legend – Remembering David Allan Coe

106.9 The Ranch mourns the death of David Allan Coe who died Wednesday(April 29th).  The outlaw and legendary singer songwriter passed away in an intensive care unit even though no specific cause of death was given.  He was 86 years old and known for hits like “You Never Even Called Me By My Name, ” “Mona Lisa Lost Her Smile,”  “The Ride” and others.

He also wrote several  country classics for other artists like “Take This Job and Shove It,” and Tanya Tucker’s “Would You Lay With Me In a Field Of Stone.”

Coe originally found fame in the 70’s and 80’s even though his life was full of controversy and issues that led to his incarceration for a period of time.

His wife, Kimberly, confirmed his death and added “one of the best singers, songwriters of our time, never to be forgotten.”
